We want to hear from you if you have the skills, experience and qualities that will enrich the lives of the individuals we support. If you have a particular talent, skill, or experience you want to offer that is not listed in our current roles, please include it in your application.

Volunteer as a
caseworker

 

We are looking for confident, sociable, and reliable team workers who are interested in meeting new people.

You need to be patient, resilient, have good communication skills, and be able to work with people from various social, cultural and religious backgrounds.

As a Casework Volunteer, you will:

  • Support residents regularly for 1 - 2 hours at the ORL office. This role requires a regular commitment either weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

  • Support residents with housing applications, job searches, and updating their online DWP journals.

  • Encourage, guide, and support the resident to achieve their identified goals.

  • Use your own initiative to identify and access relevant resources but ask for support when needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the volunteer Agreement and ORL confidentiality policy.

  • Adhere to project boundaries.

Volunteer as a
gardener

 

We are looking for a confident, sociable and reliable team worker, with a love of the outdoors and green fingers.

This is a great opportunity to use your skills and give valuable knowledge to our residents. This role involves regular volunteering in the garden of one of our properties alongside residents and other volunteers.

As a Gardening Volunteer, you will:

  • Join our existing team of gardening volunteers to maintain and update gardens in ORL Homes.

  • Help with landscaping our gardens as a team and create a space for our residents to relax.

  • Help our residents plant and grow flowers and fresh produce, which they can use to prepare and cook meals.

  • Help with grass cutting, weeding, pruning, grooming and maintaining the gardens.

Volunteer as a
decorator/cleaner

 

From time to time, our properties need a little refreshing. If you have a steady hand and an eye for detail this role will be ideal for you.

A coat or two of paint can make a world of a difference turning a place to stay into a home for our residents. A day of dusting or wiping surfaces gives a polished look that our residents will aspire to maintain, especially when they get their own place.

As a Decorating and Cleaning Volunteer, you will:

Volunteer as a
handyperson

 

We are looking for a confident, sociable and reliable team worker, with skills in plumbing, carpentry, electrics, etc.

As a Maintenance Volunteer, you will:

  • Support our Property officer with carrying out basic maintenance work when required (notice will be provided).

  • Help repair minor jobs in ORL properties.

  • Provide advice and guidance to our Property Officer.

  • Help keep properties to a high standard, ensuring our residents are safe.

  • Provide emergency cover when the Property officer is on leave (only if absolutely essential and only during your availability).

Volunteer as a
fundraiser

 

We are looking for a confident, sociable and reliable team worker, interested in meeting new people with available to attend fundraising events on some evenings and weekends.

As a Fundraising Volunteer, you will:

  • Help with organising fundraising activities for ORL

  • Attend fundraising activities on behalf of ORL

We'll only ask you to carry out tasks that you're comfortable with

It is vitally important to us that volunteers are supported within their volunteer role. Once recruited, you will have regular contact with our Volunteer Coordinator, who will be able to answer questions and support you if any issues arise. They will also meet with you to ensure you get the support you need.

ORL will provide:

  • An enhanced DBS check as you will be in contact with vulnerable adults

  • Reimbursement for expenses (including travel) that are accrued during your volunteering sessions

  • Training, support and advice
